What Causes the "Unlicensed Product" Warning in Office?

Solution 1: Remove Old Corrupted KMS/MAK Keys via Command Prompt

Conflicting legacy tokens from trial versions or expired volume MAK keys frequently prevent new genuine retail keys from activating. Use Microsoft's built-in OSPP script to clear them:

1. Close all open Office applications.
2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator (press Win, type cmd, right-click and select Run as administrator).
3. Navigate to your Office installation directory:

   cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16"

   (Or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16 for 32-bit Office).
4. Check currently installed keys:

   cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

5. Note the last 5 characters of any installed product key.
6. Uninstall the expired token:

   cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX

Solution 2: Input Your Genuine Standalone Retail Key

Once corrupted legacy tokens are removed, launch Word or Excel. Go to File > Account > Change Product Key and enter your authentic 25-character product key.
